Metchosin - chicks

Recently hatched and incubated here

We then moved them outside for first time
The five cats took quite an interest. We bring them back in every night to the basement.

This morning the cage looked a little odd like there was a large mouse on the inside of it but stuck to the wall of the cage. Upon closer inspection it was a small rat. But why had it not eaten any chicks? It turns out it had got caught by a conventional peanut butter trap. And only one of its front feet was caught in the trap. The rest of its body was free. So in its semi trapped state it had managed to continue to inside the cage but no further as the attached trap would not go thru the bars. 11 yr old Brianna suggested a sacrificial  offering to cat but we could not find the aggressive ones only the ones that make friends so we let the rat go.

Yesterday kerry did night shift.  So that she could get more than 3 hrs sleep before the next one we volunteered to take 9 yr old isaih to his soccer game

Earlier Sarah cleared out the chicken coop
