NZ Darfield - resting in our oasis

Sarah is at long last getting a chance of induldging her creative side with all the cooking in french island and yesterday she bought adigital SLR camera to catch the big landscapes we are going to see. Today she was watching a dvd on slr basics. Our phones are good for all pictures apart from long distance landscapes so this will fill a hole.

Today me and the kids nipped out for pies 8 km down the road To Sheffield
Having a car is great but one rear window does not work so the kids are having to go in strict rotation

last night "x marks the spot" game and climbing to the crows nest
now if i think about a UK post office i think of 1) queues
2) turning up without the correct documentation and getting turned away

after parking right outside none of the above applied when I went to sort out the car stuff. The lady behind the counter rang an insurer for me. She pulled up the car details on screen and did registration and ownership there and then. All on trust. And she changed my aus$ too so I had enough cash to pay. not many issues with fraud here my conditioned to suspicious mind concluded.

later when in the phone shop getting a local sim etc it was also very easy. Compare australua where i had to produce a passport to get a pay as you go sim. I commented on all this to the bloke serving me and he said

"this is new zealand most of the time we dont have news. The sort of thing that makes it into the news is marmite shortages owing to factory damage following the earthquakes"

bill sang some country type music this eve His voice is a little johnny cash like. Abd he made up lyrics on the fly that were about the kids
